Do You Do Wedding Photography?

Do you do Wedding Photography? This is a question I am often asked as a follow-up to the question ‘What do you do for a living?’ and I have replied that I am a photographer. When I say ‘No’ I am met with quite a bemused look that says ‘What do you do then?’. Well, I am here to tell you that like an accountant, solicitor or scientist there are many fields to photography and no, as a photographer we cannot or do not cover all these fields (if someone says that they can ‘Jack of All Trades, Professional of None’ springs to mind) we do have transferable skills into various fields but some training will be needed in order to work within a specific field to a high standard such as Medical Photography.

I have listed a few of the fields below and if you would like to add to the list or even would like a definition or two please drop me a line.

  • Abstract
  • Aerial
  • Architectural
  • Art
  • Astrophotography
  • Botanical

Granted one or two of these fields are subdivisions of others, but some photographers like to specialise in those specific fields. So, the next time someone replies with the answer ‘I am a photographer’ will you be asking ‘Do you do Weddings?’ or will you ask ‘What fields of photography do you cover?’
